About me

Julia Randall Consulting

My coaching expertise and experience has been built up from working within an exceptionally wide range of industries and sectors, and with people at all stages of their careers.

I underpin my practice with a sound theoretical basis having gained an MBA from the University of Leicester and ILM Level 7 Certificate in Executive Coaching and Mentoring.

I am a member of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council and operate within their code of practice.

Julia Randall

As a coach, I have been described as ‘thought provoking’, ‘creative’ and ‘challenging’.

Client feedback describes me as having an ‘innate ability to get to the root of issues’ and to ‘make a real difference’.

My style is non-directive, and I use a range of targeted questioning and analysis techniques and models to enable a client to review and challenge their own perceptions and identify their own goals and solutions.

I focus on enabling clients to achieve their objectives and I work with them to identify practical, concrete steps to measurable success.

I began my career in Learning and Development, and spent fifteen years delivering innovative, ground breaking solutions to organisational and individual development needs.  This took me into public and private sector organisations to work with business leaders to meet specific strategic objectives in financial services, legal, manufacturing, IT and transport industries.

My enthusiasm for coaching is rooted in building effective relationships with others.  My personal approach is about integrity, trust and creating the right environment for someone to feel confident in and engaged with their coaching so that they can identify and build on their full potential.

I coach face to face and using on line video platforms.  This means that my coaching can be flexible in meeting a person’s needs and cost effective.  All coaching assignments are bespoke with the specifics of the content, duration and outcomes being agreed in advance.

Testimonials

How would I describe Julia?  Supportive, Insightful, Reflective, Challenging, Thought Provoking, Adaptable and Highly Personable.

I found my executive career coaching with Julia incredibly powerful.  Without ever offering solutions, Julia helped me move through my journey of leaving a firm, understanding my career goals and aspirations and the stages of CV writing, LinkedIn profile updates, pitching cover letters, interview preparation and getting ready to join a new firm.

Julia is highly intuitive.  Seamlessly navigating the challenges of building a rapport over Teams (pesky COVID), she was able to build a deep understanding of my personality, preferences, natural styles, approach and blind spots.

Julia’s use of open-ended, thought-provoking questions and on-the-spot challenges was incredibly powerful.  Our sessions created lots of ideas and a breadth of perspectives to help me refine my approach to finding a new role.

If you are looking for a career change, I’d highly recommend that you connect with Julia.

Guy, Head of Product, Financial Services (Now Public Sector)

For the six months I have had the benefit of Julia as my coach as I made my transition from a full-time commercial role as MD of a large automotive retailer into a portfolio career.

In the early days Julia helped me with coming to terms with the abrupt termination of my commercial role. The questions that were asked were probing and sensitive and helped me come to terms with the change in a positive way.

Julia encouraged me to develop my action plan and spent time helping me understand why I had put down in my plan the activities that I wanted to achieve. At the same time ensuring that those activities were in line with my personal vision and strategy.

The insight that Julia provided me with in relation to my NED marketing materials and search has helped immensely in giving flexibility in putting together the appropriate ‘package’ for a NED/Charity Trustee role.

Where I asked questions on networking and Executive Coaching for example, Julia was happy to share her experience and guided me through to what I wanted to utilise as a result of her input.

As a result of Julia’s expert coaching, questions and guided support I have reached a place where I am clear, focused and happy with what my portfolio career is evolving into.  This currently includes a NED role with a charity, a volunteer Governance role and two business consultancy roles.

David, Non-Executive Director, Charity and Business Consultant (former MD, automotive)

Thank you for everything …a few lines to show the impact you have had on me.

It has been a real-life enabler to work with Julia, what I can honestly say is that Julia has made such a difference to me and my interim career and a new career.

She has done this in a variety of ways this includes but not exclusively covers.

  • checking the next step career is the right one for me through explorational conversation and her wealth of knowledge and insight
  • guidance around retraining options and considerations
  • other relevant careers that would involve minimal re-training to see if that was a preferred route.
  • finding out who I am and what is important to me in my next steps and in turn building this brand through varied mediums
  • When in a new role… helping me navigate the possibilities to bring me closer to my goals
  •  highlighting to me what resources and relationships I have and how to optimise them

All these areas above have made a considerable impact however the element that has, without doubt, made the most difference, is providing “me time” (among the many life roles) to consider myself and my journey and Julia’s coaching helped me dig deep to find many of the answers myself.

Julia facilitated a “reboot” with every interaction – Thank you

Sarah, Counsellor and Teacher (former branch manager, financial services)

Julia has provided expert coaching whilst transitioning between careers and moving in to a different employment sector.

I have found her support invaluable when managing my thoughts, in order that I was able to develop clear strategies in deciding how

I would set out in a new environment, with a brand new team.

Enabling me to understand how best to set my own person goals and develop plans to implement them.

José, Executive Director – External Engagement University College Birmingham

My coaching was a really positive experience, I felt very much at ease, getting a great deal of value from the sessions.

The impact of the coaching is that I am far happier ‘in my own skin’ and with who I am and have broken down a number of disabling thought patterns from my past, together with identifying some of the behaviours that were used as a defence.

Confidence is higher than it was and there are some work place experiments I can continue to use to check myself and those around me at home as well as work. Yeah, re-assured, calm and confident!

I would describe Julia as calm, respectful and diligent. Julia would draw me back over a number of sessions to remind me of certain areas. These notes which kept a mirror held up to me were valuable and demonstrated a commitment from Julia which I am grateful for.

John, Regional Director, Transport Sector

The initial coaching session with Julia was really helpful. I think it was the first time that

I actually thought about my family leave, return to work, the feeling of being away from work, how wonderful but at the same time how lonely being on family leave can be, etc.

Julia managed to cover quite a few things with me which it was great.

Julia is an excellent professional. She made me feel very comfortable to speak about my feelings, expectations and concerns.

Investment Banker AB – embarking on family leave

Julia helped me navigate my return to work and wider career opportunities and challenges which will help with my transition back to work.

The session with Julia was really helpful, and we discussed a number of points that in the next couple of months I look forward to speaking with Julia again.

Investment Banker CD – returning to work

Yes, I have had my first session with Julia and thought that it went well. She carefully listened to my queries and concerns regarding going back to work and was able to provide me with some pointers as to how to shape my discussion with my managers.

I am very much looking forward to going back to work but at the same time I am apprehensive about my change in circumstances and how that will have an impact on my career.

Julia was very patient to listen to my concerns and was able to provide a positive outlook on my thinking going forward.

I am looking forward to my next conversation.
